About

This site serves as a library of manufactured ceramic glaze combos for potters by potters.

“I wish I could see more glaze outcomes at cones my studio uses”

I wish there were easier ways to search for combos that are more accessible in my side of the world

Manufactured glazes are amazing because they can save potters time and allow exploration of other parts of pottery and somewhat provide standardized expected glaze outcomes. A lot of times, they also come with information on their behaviors during firing and properties when finished.

However, it doesn’t mean that using manufactured ceramic glaze is easy.

A lot of pottery groups exist with members who share how they prepare their glazes on their pieces and how happy (or sometimes not) they are with their results. However, navigating the groups to search for a particular successful effect is not always straightforward. Sometimes, I found my search limited from the ability to specify a brand, a specific firing cone, or just the availability of a brand geographically.

I hope this site allows its members to do more successful searches, and in return, to record their own successful combos to share.

This site is lean, no one’s data is being sold to any third parties, no ads nor annoying popups, and is funded, operated, and administered by 1 person who’s passionate about beautiful glazes and just happens to be also a web developer. I hope I can keep the site lean in the future. If you’d like to donate, please visit the “Buy me a coffee” page. In the future, I’m going to launch a paid membership tier, at which point, some features of the site will be available to supporters only.

Until then, I’d like to observe how the site scale, as the more user we have, the more storage space we’ll need. I hope scaling up can be done well, because the more the members, the larger the library, the more resource we all have access to. If you’d like to be added to our members’ waitlist, sign up here. We’ll slowly add members and send you an email to enroll once we’re ready.

If you’re a member, please visit the “Welcome” page to start.

PS: A lot of potters make their own glazes from scratch by bravely developing their own recipes through experimentation or following one. These potters are awesome! But this site is not for that. There’s already an equally awesome site for that. Please check that one out if you’re into that.
